I'm a New Yorker, a lover of world travel, a researcher of Polish Lithuanian Wooden Synagogues, a connoisseur of hats, and I make things.
I use the images in my mind to create sculptures for specific locations. Each of my projects is dependent on the space in which I install it. Sometimes a project starts with a tree that I am fond of, a field I walk by every day, or a grassy slope that I feel would benefit from artistic attention. Through these sculptures and interventions, I hope to activate a space that was once dormant or unnoticed, and so to engage the larger community. I love activating dormant spaces or giving neutral spaces a new purpose, even if only for a short while. In a direct sense, my work is autobiographical: the objects I create are physical manifestations of the things I think about. I feel something or experience something, and this in turn fuels my next project. An obsession with bunny rabbits, a fascination with maps, and the aftermath of heartbreak have all served as foundations for my projects. My professional interests range from retail to restoration. I've spent the past 2.5 years creating displays and installations for the women's retailer Anthropologie. I'm looking to switch direction in pursuit of something less transient, more lasting. I feel myself being pulled in a multitude of directions including interior design, set and prop design, carpentry, furniture building, artisan apprenticeships, art restoration and art conservation. All the above speak to my various creative needs as well as my desire to make things in a context larger than myself. I have documented my recent experiences abroad through blogging, feel free to peruse: A Bloggy Day in Londontown: Eliza Doolittle Reimagined Painting in the Shtetl - Replicating the Gwozdziec Synagogue Please see my attached CV below for further details about my experience.
